Remembers Richard

first met Richard the year that I
moved to London at a Vogue
party and we immediately
connected. He had a gentle
charisma and was extremely fun.
When people met him, they always
said they felt he had this warm
energy about him and was someone
who really listened to you.
He was proud of his fashion lines in
London, which were creative and
conceived with integrity. Fashion has
become such a fast-paced industry,
and he was unique in designing from
the heart, not his head. He had the
soul of an artist, and poured his
emotions into his work. It was really
obvious, you could see his
temperament and mood in his
collections.

His legacy lies in his work. His
collections were, and continue to be,
so inspirational to people. As a part
of that exciting young group of
designers from the mid 2000s that
came about in London – Christopher
Kane, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan
Saunders – he helped turn London
Fashion Week around and put it on
the map. He deserves that credit.
He had returned to Australia where
he grew up, and was enjoying break
before starting his new role at Adidas
in Germany. He was excited to
embark on this new position, and it’s
sad that he never got to do it.
However, it’s comforting to think
about the optimistic and positive
mind set he was in before he passed.
He was someone who made people
feel that they shared a moment with
him - everyone has so many funny
memories – he will definitely be
remembered for that. But mostly for
having a warm, genuine and
infectious spirit. He will be sorely
missed.
